Hot Water Pressure Washers for Sale in Milwaukee, WI

Water shooting out of a pressure washer does an amazing job of cleaning, but using hot water instead of cold water gets the job done even faster. Hot water is incredibly efficient in industrial settings where grime tends to build up and things need to be cleaned thoroughly and quickly.

Hot Water vs. Cold Water Pressure Washers

Hot water pressure washer in use

You’re trying to decide if you really need a hot water pressure washer or not. It really depends on the type of work you’re going to be doing. When comparing a hot vs. cold water pressure washer, both with the same nozzle, GPM and PSI, the hot water pressure washer will be considerably more efficient on difficult jobs.

Think of doing your dishes. You don’t use cold water, you use warm water. Why? Because cold water just pushes the greasy residue around. Hot water loosens grease and allows the detergent to emulsify the residue. It’s the same with power washing.

A little science for you: Hot water contains faster-moving molecules than cold water. In a pressure washer, the molecules move even faster, which reduces the water’s surface tension. This allows the water to better penetrate the molecules of whatever mess you’re cleaning off.

Water is the universal solvent, but heat the water up and you’ll get the job done much faster. For most commercial applications adding heat would increase efficiency.

Hot Water vs. Cold Water Pressure Washers

One hot water pressure washer vs one cold water pressure washer with the same nozzle, same GPM and same PSI being used in the same way to clean the same substance off the same surface? Which one is more efficient?

Choose Hot Water for:

  • Grease
  • Oil
  • Gum
  • Graffiti
  • Roofs
  • Mold

Choose Cold Water for:

  • Fleet cleaning
  • Undercarriage
  • Removing paint (high PSI)
  • Dirt removal

High GPM vs High PSI

GPM (gallons per minute) and PSI (pounds per square inch) matter a lot more if you’re using a cold water pressure washer than with a hot water model because you’re losing the advantage of having the heat to help the water penetrate.

Use High GPM for:

A high GPM is preferred for applications like cleaning mud off farm vehicles, commercial car washes, rinsing off soaps and detergents, and when the surface you’re cleaning could be damaged by blasts of high-pressure water.  When cleaning a lot of something that comes off easily, like mud, choose a high-GPM machine.

Use High PSI for:

High PSI machines are recommended when you really need force to get something clean. Stripping paint, cleaning cement driveways or sidewalks, and removing discoloration from the siding of a house are jobs better suited to machines with high PSI. Use caution, though, as vinyl siding can actually be broken by the force of water coming out of a high PSI pressure washer.

Why do Hot Water Pressure Washers Cost More?

Hot water power washers cost more than cold water machines because they include a heating mechanism. This, along with copper tubing, adds to the cost of the machine. Factor in the additional time it takes to build a hot water power washer, plus the benefit of better cleaning, and it’s easy to see why manufacturers charge more for hot water power washers.

Although hot water pressure washers cost more, the labor savings they provide easily offsets the higher initial cost over time. If commercial power washing is your business, the added heat is far more likely to impress customers and keep service times down. Bonus savings: you don’t need to use as much detergent with a hot water pressure washer.
